Getting Backstage

Install Atelier Studio Backstage on your phone or tablet, sign in with your studio account, and pick your studio.

Backstage is the Atelier Studio app for owners and staff. It runs on iPhone, iPad, and Android phones and tablets. Use it to see your day, check people in, look up a student, and handle small tasks on the spot. A tablet makes a good front-desk screen. See Run your front desk on an iPad. Bigger jobs, like building classes or changing prices, stay in Atelier Studio on the web. See what Backstage can’t do yet.

Who can use it

Backstage is for people who work at a studio that runs on Atelier Studio. You need an account that your studio owner has invited. Backstage does not let you create a new studio or a new account. If you sign in with an account that is not part of a studio, you see “No studio yet”. Ask your studio owner to invite you.

What you can see and do depends on your role and permissions, the same as on the web. If your role does not include something, Backstage tells you and suggests asking your studio owner. Read more about staff and roles.

Download the app

Search for Atelier Studio Backstage in the App Store (iPhone and iPad) or Google Play (Android), and install it. It is one app for iPhone and iPad. Store links will be added here when the app is available.

  1. Open Backstage and tap Sign in.
  2. Enter the same Email and Password you use for Atelier Studio on the web.
  3. Tap Sign in.

You can also use Continue with Google or Continue with Facebook. On iPhone you can use Sign in with Apple too. Use the same email address your studio invited.

If you forget your password, tap Forgot your password?, enter your email, and tap Send reset link. You get an email with a link to choose a new password.

Sign in with Apple and “Hide My Email”

If Apple hides your email, Backstage may not be able to match you to your studio. Sign out, sign in with the email your studio invited, and then open Me and tap Link next to Sign in with Apple.

Try a sample studio first

On the welcome screen, tap Explore a sample studio. You see made-up data from a studio called Backbeat Brooklyn. Nothing is saved and nothing is sent to your phone. Taking payments, sending messages, and changing the schedule are not available there. To leave, tap Exit.

Choose your studio

If you work at more than one studio, tap Switch studio on Today, or open More and tap Switch studio. You see Your studios, and the one you are using shows Current. A studio that is locked shows Locked.

Your Inbox and the number on the app icon include every studio. Everything else shows the studio you pick. Each studio keeps its own notification settings.

Face ID and your device’s lock

Backstage asks your phone or tablet to confirm it is really you before it does something that moves money or gives access. For example, before it charges a card, gives money back, marks a booking free, or lets Atelier support open your studio. Backstage uses Face ID, Touch ID, a fingerprint, or your passcode, depending on your device.

  • If you cancel the check, nothing happens.
  • Your device must have a screen lock (a passcode, PIN, or fingerprint or face lock). If it does not, Backstage asks you to set one in the device’s Settings first.
  • If there are too many wrong tries, unlock the device with its passcode and try again.
  • On a shared front-desk tablet, the studio owner or a team member who manages billing can turn this check off for that tablet. Read Device settings and the device check. Some actions, like changing a password, are always checked.

Appearance

Open Me (on a tablet, your picture in the side rail), then Appearance. Choose Match device, Light, or Dark. The choice is saved on this device only.

Sign out

Open Me and tap Sign out. On a tablet, tap your picture at the bottom of the side rail, then Sign out. If some check-ins have not been sent yet, Backstage warns you. If you sign out anyway, those check-ins are lost. See Today and check-in.

If Backstage will not open your studio

  • Update Backstage: an old version can no longer connect. Update it from the app store.
  • This studio is locked or Your trial has ended: the studio owner needs to sign in to Atelier Studio on the web to review the account. Staff should contact the owner.
  • Finish setting up on the web: the studio has not launched yet. The owner finishes setup on the web. You can tap Look around anyway.
  • This account cannot use Backstage: Backstage is for owners and staff. Sign out and use your studio account.
